What is Shadowlands Dispatch?
Shadowlands Dispatch is a magazine dedicated to cultural apologetics. While traditional philosophical apologetics focuses on presenting the truth of Christianity through logical arguments, cultural apologetics focuses on showing the meaning of Christian truth by discussing various cultural forms: stories, film, art, technology, media, architecture, and more. Of course, truth and meaning are inextricable and always related, but we need to emphasize different modes of understanding in different contexts.
Here at the Shadowlands Dispatch, we look at the meaning of the world around us to perceive how Christ the Logos, “for whom and by whom all things exist,” is revealed in everything from fairy tales to Cubist art to AI. In the Shadowlands Dispatch, you will find articles, reviews, recommendations that will help you both identify culture that deforms the soul with distorted meaning and culture that moves the soul “further up and further in” toward the Good, the True, and the Beautiful.
Drawing our name from C.S. Lewis’s The Last Battle, we strive to reflect the shining light of God’s truth in the shadowlands of this world as we await the full reality of the New Heavens and New Earth. We invite you to join us in this pursuit. Read our full mission statement by Editor-in-Chief Megan Rials here.
